Busy Mind

2D side-scrolling puzzle platformer made in Godot and published on itch.io

Busy Mind is a 2D physics-based puzzle platformer. You play as an emoji ball traversing small rooms with limited mobility and power-ups to help. This was done for one of Vimlark's VimJams of 2020, with the theme of "collectables."

Accomplishments
  • I was the sole developer of the project. I programmed the gameplay, including the movement mechanics and level mechanics, and the UI, including the menus and feedback for the player.

  • I designed the mechanics of the game, including the player's physics-based movement and the power-ups. I also designed the levels of the game.

Takeaways
  • This was my first completely independent project! Outside of sounds and other assets, everything was programmed and designed by myself alone. Not everything went as planned (see below), but it was worth taking a shot at doing everything on my own to see just how much work it is to do.

  • This game really showed how much practice I was going to need with designing systems and levels. The gameplay was simply too hard for a lot of people. In hindsight, I should have done playtesting and gone with my gut about how it felt to play.
